I am sooooo excited! Today one of my tech guys emailed me photos of my "new" computer lab (thank you, John!). A little background... in June of 2001 the school that I worked at on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base closed. It was a little K-6 neighborhood school and it was incredibly sad when the base closed and three years later the school followed suit. All of the students moved to the main campus and I moved to the brand new Middle School (grades 6-8). The computer lab in the new school was one of several projects that never quite got finished. For the past three years we have had summer building projects that included "finishing" the computer lab. "Finishing" actually means building it the way it was originally planned. Every June for the past three years I have packed up my classroom "to the paint", disconnected and moved 35 computers so that the renovations could take place. Every August my tech guys email me to tell me that once again the renovations didn't get done. But this year there is progress... the building has begun!
They have installed new locking storage cabinets and built me a desk...
the unfinished "wall" in front of my desk will eventually be more locking storage with a countertop that will house my two laser printers. The blank space next to the cabinet will eventually be a ten foot long workbench to house my image computers and provide a space for the techs and me to work on down computers. Isn't that wood pretty? Cherry maybe?
The students will have nice clean, new computer workspaces and all of the cords and cables will be hidden in such a way that students can't accidentally kick or hit them and shut off a computer or monitor.
There is new raceway and power being run...
I can't wait to get the notice that it is complete and I can go in and set up. I swore I wouldn't retire until this room was made to be the way it was supposed to be... but now that I have such a lovely, clean, new space to work in, who wants to retire? Not me!
Thanks for dropping by...
